I become unrecognizable about two weeks before my period every month! I don’t even recognize myself.
I’m overwhelmed by emotions, highly sensitive, and quick to anger. It’s a mix of anxiety and depression that make even getting out of bed a huge challenge.
This condition has taken such a toll on my life. I’ve lost jobs and relationships. However, when my period finally arrives, I return to my true self. Only to realize the damage caused by my condition.
I was finally diagnosed with PMDD. Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder. It is very hard to diagnose and can take up to 15 years to do so. For me it is an abnormal brain response to hormonal fluctuations during my cycle.
Ongoing research aims to unravel the complexities of PMDD and hopefully lead to better understanding potential treatments.
