Low estrogen increases risk for osteoporosis!

Sleeplessness from hot flashes is torture

I didn’t know that low estrogen increases risk factors for osteoporosis. My gynecologist took me off birth control pills when my periods stopped. I didn’t know, and she didn’t tell me, that my estrogen levels would drop and put me at a higher risk bone loss. I started doing my own research and learned that menopausal women can lose more than 3% of bone annually.

2 years after I entered menopause and because of my research, I took a DEXA bone density scan and I was diagnosed with osteoporosis and osteopenia. All of this could have been avoided if my doctor had informed me of the risks. I simply don’t understand how this knowledge isn’t available or shared!
