What next after a decade of Birth Control?

What next after a decade of Birth Control? I feel so let down by myself, the system? I’m not sure which. I was put on birth control as a teenager – not because I was sexually active but because I needed to regulate my periods. I didn’t know at that age what it was doing to my body or what would happen when I stopped. In effect, my body went haywire, I was all over the place. I had no idea what was happening physically or emotionally, and it slowly dawned on me that I did not know anything about my body or my natural cycle (off BC).

My doctors response to this was to try and start me on birth control again. This wasn’t what I needed or wanted. Instead I had to go and do my own research to figure out what was best for me.

The lack of education on women’s health is profound and it is at all levels from teens through to menopause. The solution is a more open conversation about this.
