Hormones and dry eyes & mouth

Hormones and dry eyes and mouth- the impact of hormones never ends, for the last 12 months I’ve been suffering from weirdly dry eyes and mouth. I’m in my late 30s.  I drink a tonne of water, and now using drops, but I still suffer with the dryness. Went to the doctor to find out what is going on, and it turns out it is tied to hormonal fluctuations for some women.

Apparently, like many of women’s health issues, the underlying reason is not understood or known, but the thinking is that a decrease in estrogen and androgens is the main cause, and also maybe the decline in collagen. I’ve been told that estrogen can lead to dry mouth because it’s responsible for the salivary glands! Are hormones responsible for everything?

As solutions, this is what I’ve found to help me, though I’m not sure in what proportion: 1. Collagen tablets, 2. drinking water with electrolytes – sodium and potassium to sate my never-ending thirst, 3. using Lysine eyedrops (with many thanks to women on various forums who suggested those).

In the longer term, I think having more information about all the potential symptoms women could suffer in peri and for how long this goes on.  I was stunned to learn that peri can last for about 4 years and comes not just with hot flashes, but with such a myriad of other symptoms. Hormones and dry eyes & mouth & brain fog & hot flashes & …. the list is almost endless…
